This course is designed to help both veteran and new teachers feel confident in setting up and maintaining a successful classroom community. Yonina covers a range of topics that includes building a classroom community, setting the expectations, routines, building relationships with parents and students, positive reinforcement systems, classroom aesthetics, and creating your classroom environment. And don’t forget self-care! Yonina understands the importance of teachers maintaining the appropriate balance so they can maintain a healthy lifestyle, and support those in their lives.

Each chapter provides a recommended practice and delves into the ‘why’ behind it. Participants will be guided through real-life scenarios, with sample age-appropriate language, to help teachers put theory into practice in their own classroom. Participants will also be provided with the opportunity to think and reflect on their teaching practices.

This course moves beyond theory to practice and provides participants with easy to implement tools enabling participants to cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

About the instructor, Yonina Lermer

Yonina Lermer has over sixteen years of experience in education, having taught nearly every grade-level and subject in elementary and middle school. Yonina is a classroom teacher and has served as her school’s Elementary School Literacy Curriculum Coordinator. In this role, Yonina coached educators to implement curriculum in an engaging manner, and how to effectively instruct their students in reading and writing.

Yonina also works as a teacher-mentor with new teachers entering the field of education. She has spent over a decade working in various roles in summer camps and youth programs. Yonina coaches and mentors parents to become healthy advocates for their children, providing parents with strategies and skills to help them succeed.

That’s not all! Yonina is also children's book author who teaches children the value of making a continued effort toward the things they love, even when it gets hard! She has a passion for connecting with others and helping them fail forward. (She also really loves pizza!)

Yonina is a licensed New York State teacher with a Masters in Elementary Education and a Masters in Judaic Studies.
